Restaurants in Standish

Postby Mum » Thu Apr 29, 2010 11:12 am

My Mother has now moved to Standish. She loves the area and is going to be very happy living there. She went to a nice chinese restaurant called "Chinese Delight" with my brother and they said it was excellent. I just wondered if anyone can recommend somewhere nice where we could go for Sunday lunch in Standish, when we come and visit in the next few weeks. I would welcome any feedback at all. Has anyone been to Beeches Hotel/ Brasserie and if so, what is your opinion of it with regard to the food and the prices?

THANKS
Mum

If they enjoyed the muck they serve at the Chinese Delight they will enjoy any of the other restaurants in Standish.

Hi Mum, we used to go to the Beeches, but haven't been there for some time. The menu was always both excellent and extensive.

Hi Mum

Last went to The Beeches a few months ago and the food was lovely, there's also La Mama on HIgh Street good food and very friendly and The Olive Garden on Preston Road just before you get to Coppull which is also very good.

There's The Owls on Rectory Lane but I haven't been there for quite a while.

Hope you enjoy trying the restaraunts and give us your feedback.

After visiting the Olive Garden back in May decided to make another visit on Tuesday. There were three of us, one still lives in Standish, one in Cheshire and I am near Preston. Checked on the internet that is was open Tuesday lunchtime. Pulled onto the car park to be told by a gentleman they were closed they were decorating. We weren't impressed. The moral of this story is ring up before you go.

We went to the Beeches quite recently, mid week early evening, as I really couldn't be bothered cooking our teas that night. OK I wasn't dressed like Lady Docker, we hadn't gone for a night out it was far too early for that, we were casual and presentable, not jeans, but my money is good anywhere.

The food was excellent but alas we had one hell of a wait to get seated even though there weren't so many people in, the service was slow and unfriendly, plates dumped onto the table, rock hard veg but then that appears to be the thing everywhere, they never got around to asking if anyone wanted sauces or whether everything was alright. No bar waiter came to see if we required drinks, we had to get our own from the bar and then to top it all when we were leaving we had to correct them as they hadn't put the drinks onto the bill.

With table staff like that they could go out of business. What a shame the table staff let the place, the owners and the chef down. When corrected and challenged about the service and the undercharging, the reception person apologized for short staffing that night, but if short staffed why were they stood about doing nothing?

Trouble is with us British we go out eat rubbish then tell these places the food is lovely when its not.

If you want good food and good service go abroad or else stay at home and make your own.

I disagree, there are some gems out there, it's just sorting the wheat from the chaff.

I know it's out of your area but Whittles Farm (behind Websters furniture store in Tarleton) is second to none. It is not cheap but the food is ALWAYS excellent. Lunchtime only but Friday until 7pm. You have to book.

Either you like Chinese food or you don't.

Last time we went to Chinese Delight we found the banquets to be very good. =D>

The specials board has been reduced. However, we go regularly and find it very nice. =D>
