Good Places to Eat

If you've had good service from a Standish Business, then you should let others know. This is the place to do it.

You can even eat in thebar area and it becomes cheaper. I find the Mulberry Tree ultra consistent high quality food. Being a commoner, I can recommend their chips :) P.S I know chips are not high quality food.

Everyone I know who has been to the Mulberry Tree remark how expensive it is. I believe the Brookhouse has a similar food for a lot less.

I went to the High Moor once (not by choice) and it was a dreadful rip-off. A priest (with more money than sense) took me there as a thank you for a talk I'd given to his parish. I wish he'd not bothered. We were the only ones in there and had to talk in a whisper. I remember how my main course came, according to the menu, with a "castle of chips".

When it arrived there were four chips arranged in a kind of castle formation. It was the height of pretentious nonsense and I found myself craving a pub crawl with the lads and a kebab on the way home.

Bit further afield. Went to Hoghton Tower at the weekend on the way there is a quite modern looking canal side bar/restaurant. Very nice. Hoghton Tower is a place worth a few hours too.

Wiggin Tree

Postby choccyface » Wed May 20, 2009 11:22 am

Not strictly standish I know, but we went to the wiggin tree on saturday night and had a fantastic meal. The place was heaving which at the moment is a rare sight.
Its been done up inside and is really nice. The service was second to none as well. If anyone is going there, if you google "Wiggintree parbold" you get a link to them and if you sign up for their newsletter you get a voucher for a free glass of house wine with every main meal.

The Owls, The Beeches, La Mama & The Olive Garden are all usually excellent!

Have a trip to Tarleton and try Whittles Farm (behind Websters furniture shop). Only open at lunch time, and not cheap, but the food is second to none. Also go to Astley Park in Chorley. The cafe has now been renovated. They do light lunches and again the food is excellent. At weekend you can then have a walk round Astley House (no charge).

Went to Dicconson Arms at top of Appley Lane North on Saturday and the food was fabulous, along with the service.
Very friendly staff and a wonderful chef.
Not the cheapest of places but worth every penny.
